If you have wide feet then American brand Keen are a good choice. Best known for their sandals with the distinctive "toe bumper" they also make excellent walking boots (with the same protective toe bumper, of course). The Gypsums in particular have a combination of lightness and good resistance to twisting which makes them ideal for mountain trekking or hill ground in places such as the Lakes or Snowdonia. The soles shed mud extremely well and give surprisingly good grip in the wet. The full grain leather is all double stitched and a highish cuff gives plenty of support.
